    What is G Mark?

G Mark is a certification system that ensures the safety, quality, and compliance of certain products exported to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It was developed by the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) to enable the free movement of products within GCC countries.

G Mark is similar to the CE marking and is used to verify product compliance with GCC Technical Regulations. Products certified with G Mark can be legally marketed and used in Gulf countries.

    Documents Required for G Mark

    Product Technical File
A file detailing the technical specifications and standards of the product, including:

    • Product description and technical specifications
    • Design and manufacturing processes
    • Conformity assessment procedures
    • Instructions for use and markings

    Risk Analysis
A document outlining potential risks during product use and how these risks are managed.

    Test Reports
Accredited laboratories' test reports verifying the product’s compliance with GCC standards.

For electrical devices, LVD (Low Voltage Directive) and EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) test reports are required.

    Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
A declaration by the manufacturer or importer stating the product's compliance with relevant standards.

    Production Quality Certificate
Documents such as ISO 9001 certification to verify the manufacturer’s quality management system.

    Labeling and User Instructions
Evidence that G Mark labeling, warnings, and user instructions comply with relevant standards.

    G Mark Certificate
A conformity certificate issued by an accredited Notified Body.

G Mark is mandatory for products regulated under Gulf Technical Regulations. The main product categories requiring G Mark certification are:

    1. Low Voltage Electrical Devices

      • Household appliances (e.g., refrigerators, ovens, air conditioners)

      • Lighting equipment
      • IT equipment
      • Electric toys
    2. Gas Appliances

      • Products falling into specific categories determined by GCC countries (e.g., medical devices, pressure vessels).

    Countries Requiring G Mark

G Mark is legally mandatory in the following GCC countries:

    • United Arab Emirates (UAE)
    • Saudi Arabia
    • Kuwait
    • Qatar
    • Bahrain
    • Oman
    • Yemen (optional for certain products).

These countries use G Mark to verify product compliance with GCC standards before market entry.

    G Mark Application Process

    1. Preparation of Technical File

      • A file containing all technical details and the declaration of conformity is prepared.
    2. Testing

      • The product is tested according to GCC technical standards.
      • Tests must be conducted by an accredited laboratory.
    3. Evaluation by Notified Body

      • The prepared file and test reports are sent to a Notified Body authorized by the GSO.
    4. Issuance of G Mark Certificate

      • If the product is compliant, the Notified Body issues the G Mark certificate.
    5. Use of G Mark Labeling

      • The G Mark label is affixed to the product or its packaging.

    G Mark Labeling Requirements

    • The G Mark logo must be clearly visible on the product.
    • It must also be included on the packaging or user manual.
    • The mark indicates compliance with GCC standards.
    • The manufacturer's or authorized representative's identification details must accompany the marking.

    Advantages of G Mark Certification

    • Legal Compliance in Gulf Countries: Products cannot be exported to GCC countries without G Mark certification.
    • Consumer Trust: G Mark proves that the product is safe and meets high standards, increasing consumer confidence.
    • Competitive Edge: G Mark facilitates market preference and opens business opportunities in the GCC region.
    • Legal Protection: The certificate ensures product compliance with regulations, reducing potential legal issues.
