Physical Analysis

In cosmetic products, physical analysis is essential to accurately assess the product's properties, performance, and experience offered to consumers. Physical analyzes include the visual, textural and application features of the product. Such tests are carried out during the formulation of cosmetic products, during the production process and during final product controls.

An overview of the basic physical analyzes performed in cosmetic products:

Color Measurement: Checking whether the color tone, brightness and density of the product comply with the standards and label information. This is done using spectrophotometer instruments.

Viscosity Measurement: Measuring the fluidity and consistency of the product. Rotational viscometers are commonly used for such measurements.

Density Measurement: Measuring the mass of the product in a unit volume. It is done using pycnometers or density meters.

Particle Size and Distribution: Analysis of the size and distribution of particles, especially in powder products or emulsions. This is done by laser diffraction or microscopy techniques.

Refractive Index: Measuring how the product refracts light. This can be an indicator of the ratio and quality of the components of the product.

Spredability Test: It is performed to measure how the product is distributed and spread on the skin. This is especially important for products like foundation, BB creams and sunscreens.

Stability Tests: To check whether there is any change in the physical properties of the product for a certain period of time or under certain conditions (such as heat, light, humidity).

Packaging and Dispensing Testing: The interaction of the product with its packaging, checking the dispensing properties in pump bottles or sprays.

These physical tests are critical for evaluating a cosmetic product's quality, performance, and capacity to meet consumer expectations. They are performed regularly to ensure that products are free of defects or undesirable features.
